How do I make a website? I have many programs at my disposal...?

Hi, I am wanting to make a website for my family%26#039;s company. I have at my disposal:

After Effects

Flash

Dreamweaver

Photoshop

Fireworks

Freehand

Cold Fusion

I only have general knowledge of After Effects, Photoshop, and I have made many animations in Flash but I really have not got into the programming aspect of it.

I am looking to make a very proffessional-looking website with my Flash/After Effects animations. Can someone explain to me how I do this? We purchased a host/domain name, now I just need to know what programs of the above listed I need to use to make it happen.

Thank you very much.

Flash does not always generate a professional-looking website. In fact, it can actually detract from a site%26#039;s cleanness. It should only be used when absolutely necessary. If you take a look at some of the best websites, they%26#039;re all simple - it%26#039;s designed to effectively present the information without distraction.

With that in mind, web design is an art. You will need lots of practice before you will get anything decent. You don%26#039;t really need any software, but they can help.

Pushing all of that aside, here I go:

Dreamweaver - easy-to-use WYSIWYG website editor; you lay out your page and put your contents in it with this

Photoshop or Fireworks - use this to make graphics for you website

Flash - if you need some very interactive things, use this

ColdFusion - can be used for scripts; not recommended - use an open-source alternative instead (eg. PHP)

All of the software are very complicated and will require a few books to understand. Go to your favorite bookstore and get books on the applications you%26#039;re using. The only ones you should be able to figure out without extensive training are Dreamweaver and Photoshop. That should be enough for basic websites containing only content.

I also suggest you learn HTML and use Nvu instead of Dreamweaver in order to make more standard-compliant websites. Other than that, good luck.

Hi. If you are wanting to get into the language side of things, I recommend w3schools.com. It%26#039;s free, and has a lot of tutorials. Creating a professional looking site takes some practice though.

Other Replys:Well it looks to me like youve got yourself some good programs! I used flash and dreamweaver along with photoshop to built mine. If you want a flash site, take the flash swf file and upload it into a dreamweaver page. Take a look at mine as an example: http://mmendoonline.com

also got a tutorials page with helpful links!

also try CMS for websites that will require more than (lets say) 20 pages. I used phpcow.com for this site: http://myrgvsports.com

lots of sections but phpcow will make the work easier and time saver. You can also insert swf and jpeg files into the templates.

Other Replys:you can actually build the website in notepad using css there is a great tutorial website on learning css, i used it to learn how to build a css page in a week. it is a great tool
