I%26#039;ve been thinking of starting my own website, publishing stories of my own and of others.
I%26#039;ve been designing it on my Mac computer, with the program %26quot;iWeb,%26quot; and have been searching domain names and so on.
But, despite my having enough content to do this, I don%26#039;t know how I would go about starting this site. I don%26#039;t know about web hosting, domains, good prices, or anything really.
What would be the basic steps I need to take towards me creating a website consisting of written stories? I appreciate any help. Thank you.

The most painless way to do this...
1) Go with a web host that has the Fantastico auto-install utility.
2) Use Fantastico to auto-install the Drupal content management system (literally, all it takes is a few clicks and in minutes, you%26#039;re done).
3) Log into your new Drupal website and start posting your stories.
4) Get other people to sign up and post their stories. As the site owner, you have the option to pre-approve each story before it goes %26quot;public%26quot;.
5) Sign up for a Google AdSense account, and install the Drupal AdSense add-in module, if you%26#039;d like to earn some bucks on your new site.

Since you have a mac, you already have the software to host the website on your computer. The only thing you will need is to get a domain name. dyDNS.org is a site that I have used.
I googled %26quot;how to setup web server on MAC%26quot;. There should a good tutorial for you to look at.
Other Replys:I wouldntbother hosting on your own machine. It means leaving it on all the time in order to keep your site active. If your machine breaks down, you dont have a site! Then there is the electric bills from leaving it on. Try yahoo or lycos or bravenet tostart with. Chose a basic package to start with but make sure that you are able to upgrade if your site gets more popular. Things you need to know about are webspace; this is the amount of disk space allocated to you for your website. If you use lots of unoptimised graphics, you will see this deplete rapidly!
Bandwith is the amount of data transfer from your site. If your site is poular you will use more bandwidth as more people are downloading pages from your site. If you use lots of unoptimised images, your bandwith will deplete rapidly too!.
Often you will get some email boxes with your account.
If you want databases and scripting, look out for PHP/PERL and MYSQL. Most hosts offer these, but if you are only creating pages in HTML, then you wont require them.
The most important thing is to go on a forum and ASK. get other peoples opinions of hosting and use their experience to start off with.
Good luck
Other Replys:Choose a nice domain name e.g. www.yourname.com . Then you will need hosting to publish your pages.
If you are serious about creating websites for your business, don%26#039;t go for free webhosting as they are not reliable and you may end up losing all your work. They usually put ads on your websites and it could be annoying.
If you intend to create a few websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website), go for multiple web hosting where you could handle your websites in one account.
I suggest following webhosting , they are quite good.

They only charge $4.95/month and they offer %26quot;a free Domain Name%26quot; and installing service called %26quot;Fantastico%26quot;.
